Winter String Jam Session

4:00pm - 6:00pm

Sunday 26th July 2020

EMU BAY LAVENDER FARM

You are enthusiastically invited to join Fidel and friends for the upcoming Kangaroo Island musical jam session. This session will bring together string instrument players of all levels for a fun, playalong jam. Join us for a curated selection of awesome jam songs suitable for beginners through to advanced players.

Who’s it for?
This session is open to acoustic string instrument players at all levels and all ages. Everyone who knows their basic chords is welcome to join in. Non-participating friends, family and music lovers are most welcome* to come along for a wine and a pleasant afternoon of live music.
* Due to COVID-19 restrictions, numbers for this jam are limited to invitees only.

How it works
The session will start right on 4pm. Fidel will run you through an introduction to playing along in a session with others. Fidel will then lead everyone in a playalong of the song list for the session.

What to bring
Please bring your tuned string instruments, a capo if you have one, and your own tuner.

FAQs

I don’t know many chords, can I play along?
You sure can. We’ll be playing a bunch of simple songs to start with. As long as you can play a few chords, you’ll be just fine.

Can I play my own songs?
Not in this session. The songs we’ll be playing have been carefully chosen to work for the players we know are coming along. Fidel does lots of work to make sure these songs will work. We like to let him run the show.

I don’t want to play chords. I just solo. Is that ok?
It’s not that kind of party. This is an inclusive session. That means we’ll all be playing chords together unless Fidel calls on you to solo. Which he might. But chords are king.

I can’t play a string instrument, can I sing along?
Absolutely! But please remember, this session is primarily for string players to improve their skills. So join us, but don’t overpower us. Cool? Cool.

Mind if I just noodle about on my guitar between songs?
That’s really bad etiquette at a jam session. If you need to do a quick tune up, go for it. But between songs you should be listening to the session leader.

Can I bring my drums/keyboard/amp/tin whistle?
This session is for acoustic string instruments only. Guitars, mandolins, ukuleles, banjos, that kinda thing.

Can I bring a buddy?
Usually we’d welcome you to bring the whole family and your music loving friends. But because of COVID-19 restrictions, we have to keep the numbers limited. Please get in touch if you’d like to bring someone extra.

Excited to have you join in!
